Why IP Adventures?

Why IP Adventures?
IP Adventures was founded in the late 1980’s and has operated in both California and Vermont, with clients around the world.

Lifelong learning has been a personal mission that we’ve pursued for many years. We began exploring our personal adventures and sharing them with family and friends online on a small personal web site. This in conjunction with years of consulting and business experience led us to a new set of conclusions about what it takes to succeed in the world today. As we realized it was time to share the grand adventure of Internet technology, and the phenomenal impact it has on our world with others, we blended our business and personal lives; to a large extent because of our passion for the evolution of telecommunications technology. We’ve spent a great deal of our time traveling, and the Internet is the perfect vehicle for staying in contact with our business contacts, family, and friends.

We also feel it’s become imperative for people to understand that everyone works with intellectual capital. . . information. . . knowledge. To be a successful worker in any field today, we must all be knowledge workers. Every one we know, is in some form, an IP – an Information Professional. A thinking adult cannot continue to learn and grow in today’s technology and be anything less.

Our Roots
In the 80’s Ken was a driving force behind the introduction of telecommuting to the federal systems division of AT&T. At the same time he was heavily involved in early efforts at Distance Learning online. He helped manage (Sysop in those days) the Telecommunications Forum on CompuServe for several years. He was a resource for several books on telecommuting and was often called on to consult with groups interested in the concept. This coupled with his technical background led to a variety of large consulting engagements. Since that time we’ve been involved with many startup companies and tech sector businesses in the growth cycle and worked through numerous business development projects.

Our consulting practice roots grow back into the very early days of personal computing and the Internet. In April of 2003, we wound down much of our active consulting work when Ken joined a software development company to oversee the expansion of a world-class customer service engineering group supporting 2700 worldwide customers.

IP Adventures has operated as a strategic business and technology consulting practice providing expertise in many critical areas. If you need help in these areas, send an email to ken@ipadventures.com. While we no longer actively pursue consulting work, we do take on occasional projects and have a deep network of colleagues we may be able to refer you to for help in the following areas:
- Best current practices in network management and security
- Cost recovery in data networks
- Telecommunications and Internet technologies
- Selling and sales skills
- Redefining corporate cultures
- Innovation and disruptive technologies
- Lifelong Learning
- The impact of technology on society

“It used to be that the journey out of the cave into the light of knowledge was long and painful; now, with network technology standing in for educational arts whose demands are more arduous, wisdom is at our fingertips, and it won’t hurt a bit. We just have to develop a knack for it.” — Darrin Barney from Prometheus Wired
